Black Bean Soup Recipe

Hi Reader,

I’ve always loved black beans, and my go-to black bean meal is black beans with rice and chicken. But it’s soup season, and I really love this black bean soup.

I made this one in my pressure cooker to keep it weeknight friendly—45 minutes, and you’re done. You can also make it on the stovetop if you have more time.

The smoky ham hock gives it so much flavor, and I love loading it up with jalapeños, red onions, and plenty of sour cream.

If you’re a black bean fan like me, you might also want to check out my Slow Cooker Black Beans. They’re perfect as a side or for meal prep.

A helpful tip: For this recipe, you can substitute bacon or smoked turkey for the ham hock. One thing I like to do is keep a few pieces of smoked meat in my freezer. They come in handy if I want to add that flavor to beans or greens.

I hope you try this one. Please let me know if you do.

Happy Cooking,

Tanya Harris

Hi Reader, I just got back from spending the holidays in Jamaica, and I'm still thinking about the food. Every time I visit, I'm reminded why Caribbean cooking holds such a special place in my heart—and my stomach. I spent time with family, visited the house where I spent many summers, and ate some amazing food. Which brings me to one of my all-time favorite Jamaican dishes: Oxtail. cream of broccoli soup in bowl in kitchen

Hi Reader, Soup season is here, and I'm all about it. There are so many different kinds to make, but cream-based soups are my favorite. I've been working on this broccoli cheddar soup for a while now. It does take a little prep work because I cut onion, celery, and carrot along with the broccoli to really build up the flavor.
