Country-style ribs (oven method)

Hi Reader,

I love BBQ. Not just in the summer when everyone's grilling outside, but year-round. There's something about that smoky, sweet, sticky sauce that I love no matter what month it is. These country-style ribs give you all that BBQ goodness without dealing with a grill in February weather.

The technique is simple: low and slow in the oven. You season them, cover them with foil, and cook them at 300ยฐF for over two hours. Then brush them with BBQ sauce, increase the heat, and finish them uncovered at a higher heat so the sauce becomes sticky and caramelized.

Here's what makes them work:

๐Ÿ– Country-style ribs are meatier than baby back or spare ribs (they're cut from the pork shoulder). That's why they are perfect for colder weather and cooking low and slow in the oven, in my opinion.

๐Ÿ– The mustard and spice rub creates a flavorful base before the BBQ sauce goes on.

๐Ÿ– Low temperature keeps everything tender, the final high heat gives you that glaze.

๐Ÿ– Mostly hands-off, just about 15 minutes of actual work. Total time is around 2 hours and 45 minutes, but the oven does most of the work while you do other things. I usually serve these with mashed potatoes and green beans, or cornbread and coleslaw.

More BBQ options:

Let's not wait until summer to enjoy the flavors of BBQ. We can totally make these at home.

Happy Cooking,

chicken tenders on wire rack baking dish

Hi Reader, When my brain is fried, and I can't figure out what to make for dinner, I make chicken tenders. I love how easy they are as a base. You can toss them in whatever sauce you want or just use them as a dip. Make sure to bake them on a baking sheet with a rack (Amazon affiliate link) to keep them crispy. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Here's the recipe: Crispy Oven Baked Chicken Tenders The one tip I want you to take away from this recipe is to toast your panko breadcrumbs in the oven before you bread the...

Tanya holding BBQ shrimp

Hi Reader, We spent spring break in New Orleans and had the best time. A gator tour, more food than I can list, and a whole lot of walking it off after. The BBQ shrimp stuck with me. It's not actually barbecued. It's jumbo shrimp simmered in a buttery, garlicky, Worcestershire-spiked sauce, and you eat it with crusty bread for soaking up every last bit of that sauce. Nothing sweet, nothing sticky, just bold Louisiana flavor in one skillet. ๐Ÿด Get the recipe: New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. If this one...

sausage lentil soup in bowl

Hi Reader, The weather in North Carolina has been all over the place lately. One day it's in the 70s, and the next it's cold, rainy, and windy. On the cold, rainy days, I want soup. Really good soup. This sausage lentil soup fits the bill. Not only is it delicious, but it's packed with good stuff โ€” lentils for fiber, zucchini, celery, onions, carrots, and tomatoes. And the Italian sausage? It adds so much flavor. This is the kind of soup that makes you actually look forward to a gloomy day....
