Pulled pork, potato salad, and peach cobbler

Hi Reader,

I can't believe the year has flown by so fast, but this weekend is Labor Day weekend...already. For long weekends, especially if we're having people over, I like to have some go-to recipes that I can easily throw together.

The meat

pulled pork in crockpot spoon picking up bbq sauce

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork is the one I make most. Pork shoulder, 8 hours on low, and it shreds with a fork. If you are short on time, the North Carolina Instant Pot Pulled Pork gets you there in about 90 minutes.

Season it with my Homemade BBQ Seasoning and finish it with Vinegar BBQ Sauce. Living in North Carolina for as long as I have, the vinegar sauce is the one I love. It is thin and tangy, and it cuts right through the richness of the pork.

If you have a crowd with kids, add Oven Baked Hot Dogs or Air Fryer Turkey Burgers. Both cook indoors, which frees up the grill.

The sides

Southern Potato Salad and Southern Style Macaroni Salad both taste better made a day ahead, so those are my Sunday jobs. The pork can go in the slow cooker Sunday night too.

For something to put out early while people are still arriving, a pot of Classic Southern Boiled Peanuts works great.

Drinks and dessert

Homemade Fruit Punch has been my go-to summer drink, and it's always a hit.

And Easy Peach Cobbler while peaches are still good. That is the whole menu.

Happy Cooking,
